| It
is estimated that around 1-1.2 million installations of replacement
glazing happen every year. If all of them went through the normal
Building Regulations application process it would place an enormous
burden on local authorities.
The answer is a scheme which
allows installation companies that meet specific criteria to self-certify
that their work complies with the new Building Regulations Document
'L' covering the Thermal Performance of all new window installations.
The new organisation and scheme is known as FENSA which stands for
the Fenestration |
Self-Assessment
Scheme. It was set up by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and
meets with central Government approval.
If you don't use a FENSA registered installer, then
you must apply for building regulations to change your windows.
This is not necessary if you use a FENSA registered installer, such
as You Choose! You will receive a certificate from FENSA after installation,
stating that your windows comply with document 'L'. This is particularly
important when you come to sell your property, as a conveyancing
solicitor will want to check this.
